Injectable FillersInjectable fillers are used to reduce or remove the appearance of wrinkles and other lines of the face. There are currently several products available that are useful for this purpose.
BOTOX ® Cosmetic
This is a very popular and effective method of treating deep lines caused by muscle actions such as frown lines, crow's feet, as well as lines around the lower mouth and chin. By injecting a weak toxin that temporarily weakens the muscles, but still allows them to remain functional, your skin doesn't wrinkle as deeply as before. BOTOX® lasts around four to six months, and may be repeated when necessary.
Collagen
An older injection treatment, Collagen is an animal protein that removes face lines by filling them in. Collagen only lasts six to eight weeks, at which time another injection must be made to maintain its effect. Allergic reactions are rare and can be easily avoided with a patch test.
Hyaluronic Acid
Hyaluronic acid is sold under several different brand names, including Restylene, Perlene, and Hyalaform. It's designed to work in the same way as Collagen, but lasts much longer; around nine months or longer if used in conjunction with Botox. The problem of allergic reactions has also been eliminated. These products are particularly useful in the areas of the forehead, upper lip, and around the mouth.
