Eyelid Surgery Eyelid surgery is done to remove excess upper eyelid skin and to improve lower eyelid "bags" and is perhaps the best value when it comes to reducing the signs of aging.
This is an outpatient procedure that is done under local anaesthesia with mild sedation, and takes about 45 minutes for the upper eyelids and an hour for the lower eyelids. The upper eyelids use sutures -- which are removed after five days -- that are placed in the lid fold to hide any scarring while lower eyelid incisions can often be made inside of the lid to prevent any visible scarring.
Swelling always occurs and there is about a 50/50 chance of bruising which can produce a "black eyes" look. Both conditions take about one to two weeks to subside. Generally you'll be able to return to full activity fairly quickly.
